CMS IN THE COMMUNITY

At CMS we’re proud to be fully active members of both our local and the wider community. While we’re unable to lend our support to every charity request, we do everything we can to prioritise initiatives that we believe will deliver a direct benefit to those least able to help themselves.

In recent years this has included a diverse range of causes, including joining volunteers from across Kirkcaldy in The Cottage Family Centre’s annual Christmas Drive, alongside ongoing donations and other direct help throughout the year.

We’ve twice assisted Nick Knowles and the BBC DIY SOS team – first to improve the lives of Manchester war veterans (for which we manufactured and installed PVCu windows across 66 individual properties) and then by providing aluminium window frames in a project to build a new boxing club and community centre in the wake of the Grenfell tragedy.

CMS is also proud to have funded a well in the northeastern highlands of Zimbabwe, as part of charity AquAid’s ongoing effort to supply people in Africa with clean drinking water (over 2 million and counting so far).

CMS RECYCLING IN NUMBERS

We’re continually looking for new ways to improve the quality of our products and services, and always with the goal of minimising adverse environmental impact while doing so.

Over 2019-20, we treated a total of 2802 tonnes of waste – 100% of which was recycled and diverted from landfill:

  • 96.5% recycled and where possible remade into new products, including new glass double glazed units
  • 3.1% reused
  • 0.4% used by waste-to-energy specialists

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Our commitment to sustainability – economic, environmental and social – is second to none. As the business landscape evolves and our business continues to grow, we’re continually looking at new ways to develop and deliver products and services that are ethically and sustainably sourced and have minimal negative impact on the environment. We aim to achieve a completely ‘closed loop’ system in which all materials are fully and actively recyclable so that our target of diverting 100% of our waste material away from landfill each year is realised. We work closely with our supply chain to this end (e.g. glass waste is collected and sent back to our glass manufacturer for re- use in new sealed window units), while our own dedicated recycling facilities handle all old extracted timber, PVCu and metal windows and doors from domestic properties and commercial contracts.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Our approach to the health and safety of our team is based on a ‘target zero’ ethos, meaning we strive to achieve zero accidents or incidents in connection with our business.

This extends to every aspect of our working practice. Our stakeholders deserve a safe working environment. We always seek to minimise any risks they may be exposed to which is demonstrated by our OHSAS 18001 Health & Safety certification and Considerate Constructor Scheme membership along with CHAS, SMAS and NASSH.
